‘People from poly should know their place’

‘People from poly should know their place.’ said one JC student.

There is a Polytechnic vs Junior college war going on with online singapore gamers. JC students are insulting the poly students as stupid and mindless while the poly students counterback that JC students have no logical thinking and only memorise books.

This was taken from an article fr newspaper...

We all know there is tis war going on be it right out in your face or behind your back. It had always been there and in my opinion would always be ard till the day everybody goes to unis, or everybody goes to high schs together...

But even so, there would always be classifications between top unis and lousy unis (for those low graders) or top 5 or 10 high schs and neighbourhood high schs (for those who did badly for "O" levels but die die still got to go high sch)...

So there would be comments like, "People from neighbourhood schools should know their place."... Actually tis comment already exists...

Simply coz Singaporeans r lidat! No matter wat u do, they would always say tis... Becoz we r never equally rich, our jobs are never equal, there would always be different social status...

The other day i said a comment wrongly to SZ... Not exactly wrong but i think it would make her get e wrong idea at tt pt... She wouldnt remember now anyways...

Coz shes graduating wif her degree soon...

I said, "Now more n more ppl haf their degrees liao, i feel very imbalanced! (xin li bu ping heng)!"

Any other undergrads would feel very smug over wat i said... But fortunately, my fren is not tt kind of person... Although many yrs ago, she used to think tt certain kind of ppl wif certain kind of jobs are unfit to be wif Uni grads, but of coz, she doesnt think tis way anymore...

Tis is one thing i like about her, her values n perspectives grows n develops over e yrs, whereas others simply jus stuck there and refuse to accept watever is happening, and only believing in wat they choose to...

Although sometimes the frequencies in her change often drives me crazy... Lol, but tis is another thing altogether...

Anyways, when i went back, i realized tt wasnt wat i meant... I tend to make alot of tis kind of mistakes wif her lately... I didnt bother to clarify coz it wasnt impt... It would be gd too if she felt gd about herself then, and glad tt shes went thru it n going to complete her degree... Its jus e 1st line above tt reminded me of tt conversation...

I wasnt saying tt coz i was inferior as compared and tt i shd get a degree or something... Coz tts jus isnt me at all...

Wat i was trying to say was, wif a degree, it is easier to switch industries, it is easier to find better opportunities... Just like e last recruit, i saw SIA looking for Admin person but a degree is a must, in any area... Better companies, who r more reputable, stable, and pays better, hires admin ppl wif a degree...

So unless u haf e right connections, as a dip holder (worst a design dip holder), if u wanna do admin, u haf to settle for small MNCs, which would pay u little, and worst might downsize, retrench, cutcost any time...

But of coz, i am not saying tt having a degree means u r more superior, in case those ppl starts to swell... Ive worked wif companies who fired degree holders within their probation periods...

It simply means u haf a better head start, a better starting pay... So ultimately how well u do later on, depends on how capable ur work abilities are, how smart u really r, which would never be reflected on ur cert...

So for those without gd head starts, they would haf to compensate wif hard work and their time in life for a better job next time... But in reality, 5 yrs of experience in a MNC doesnt mean it qualifies u to work at a reputable company... TIS IS LIFE, TIS IS REALITY!

I mean, lets face it... Who doesnt wan to work for a bigger, better company, which is stable, offers higher pay and better career prospects? No doubt we learn more at MNCs (well, mostly)... But ultimately, as we grow older, we would all want a stable well/decent paid job...

When i said imbalanced, i meant the fact tt, becoz those ppl ard had completed their degree, they can just move on wif their next phrase... Whereas i am still stuck on the phrase where i got to work for 3-4 yrs, and then go for a degree (3-4 yrs) and then move on wif the next phrase...

Its e number factor tt i felt imbalanced... At 22, those ppl can just concentrate on building their career and their own family fr tis moment onwards coz they haf fully completed all the neccessary involvement that they need to on their study phrase... I did a check and i can only proceed at 30... And meanwhile i got to juggle between savings, working, studying, enrichment courses, etc... Also, i had to pause my life and go for a degree education...

So it just felt a part of my life is taken away... U get wat i mean?

Thus, i did comtemplated on forgoing my degree studies... Becoz tt would make my life easier... I do not haf to slog so hard for tis 8 yrs...

However, it cannot work tis way... While i am not the kind of person who is motivated by money... I noe i cannot stop here, simply becoz i am not following my industry anymore... I need to get the degree to widen my opportunities... Or a specialised degree tt i might switch to...

I haf an area tt i wan to go into but not for e next 4 yrs... If need be, for the total switch, i might haf to go take another dip and to degree which would take 4 yrs full time, coz i found out i couldnt jus go over degree like tt... But i think i can if i go overseas studies... But overseas is way off my budget...

If i dun take e switch then i would do private part time degree studies (4 yrs) (might be a business degree), while i am working... But same thing, not for the next 4 yrs... Coz i haf other commitments... Money is e key element here...

Like wat i always say, unless of coz, i find a rich husband and marry myself off... Then maybe things will accelerate... Muahahhahaha... But of coz, its not going to happen... Or i picked up a bag of money, or i won 50K in a lucky draw... Which again, would not happen... Hahha...

But no matter, poly or not, degree or not, u just haf to move on... Then u would see where u r going, whether u need to make any changes, whether u like ur industry, etc... Just tt, sometimes when u r at crossroad, it is just so difficult to even make e next step...

My fren always say, "U can take ur time in life to find out wat u wan, but dun take too long"... I often kept quiet about tis, becoz, like it or not, my fren is the blessed kind, he gets wat he wans, life is often too smooth for him...

But life is not as simple as u find wat u wan, pursue it and then happily ever after... (Actually hes toking about e ideal job u wan)

So e last i met him, he said tis again, and i was abit frustrated...

Me: So y do u HAVE to find out wat u wan?

Him(shocked): ... hmm... coz it makes u happy.

Me: Ok, then it doesnt matter whether how long u take if wat u wan is truly wat u r seeking from e bottom of ur heart. Y do u haf to put a time limit to something u r looking for, which would make u happy?

Him: .......

Me: If not, it doesnt matter whether u find out wat u wan. It doesnt make life any less worth living even if u do not haf or find out wat u wan...

I also wanted to say, unfortunately, most ppl do not get wat they wan (as in ideal jobs), but he wun get it so i didnt add on... I am not saying becoz ppl dun get wat they wan, so dun do it... I am saying at the least u haf to understand e fact tt most ppl dun... And if u noe tis and yet tell me, "Celest, i noe but i am still gonna pursue it!" then seriously, i would feel so proud to haf a fren like u... Becoz not many ppl haf e guts when they saw both side of the coin...

Anyways, according to JC ppl, intelligence is measured by their superior education...

Whether u r smart or not to me is not impt, i am not going to feel impressed if u can tell me, y my cells die or how big e galaxy is, wat ham is made up of, watever... But then if u r toking about book smart or knowledge, obviously it is measured by how hard u memorise ur books...

To me, truly intelligent ppl are those wif both book smarts n street smarts...

Street smartness often makes a person charismatic and charming... However street smartness doesnt cum from certs, poly, degree, phd, O/N levels, PSLE... They dun come fr there unfortunately... Which is wat makes these kind of ppl unique but often painful...

Becoz street smartness often comes wif a price and stories...
